What's New in Aerospace Education!

At our May 2019 meeting we honored our Teachers of the Year. In the K-8 catgegory we selected Mrs. Jaclyn Haas. She has been a 5th grade teacher at Poquoson Elementary School for nine years. For the past two years, Jackie has chaired the STEM Day at Poquoson Elementary. She worked with multiple grade levels and assisted in getting them the supplies they needed. Jackie Haas is a leader at PES and embraces the belief of what STEM truly is. In the 9-12 Grades category we honored Mr. Daniel Diggs who is a STEM teacher for grades 10-12 at Poquoson High School. He's a dedicated faculty member of the Poquoson High Science and Career and Technical Education (CTE) departments. Daniel is incredibly adept at providing experiences for students to not just learn the content, but to truly experience the content. Mr. Diggs is a tornado of learning, and inspires that same passion in his students.

Aerospace Education

US combat operations share a common linkage -- the use of technology to gain an advantage in the battle arena. This capability is the product of an education infrastructure that has cultivated researchers, innovators, engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel who are capable of designing, operating, and supporting these technologies. As we look to the future, it is clear there will be demand for an even higher level of basic education and an increasing percentage of individuals with skills in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). AFA is dedicated to ensuring America's aerospace excellence through STEM education, scholarships, grants, awards and public awareness programs. This section of our web site provides information on Langley Chapter Aerospace Education programs that support AFA's educational goals.
