"From the President"

What an outstanding team we have! AFA Langley pulled off the most successful Symposium and Salute to Team Langley of the last decade. We were able to host a top-notch symposium much to the credit ofBuster douglas the hard work and dedication from the entire AFA Langley team. Additional gratitude to our generous sponsors of this annual event, their contributions will make it possible for our chapter to have another impactful year in surrounding Tiderwater communities.

I want to especially recognize AFA Langley Executive Vice President, DJ Baylor. He was an integral part of the team as well as the success of the Symposium. Essentially, DJ was the engine behind this year’s event. He led the team from the beginning to the end, organizing speakers and logistics to make the event seamless. DJ, a modest individual, he will redirect recognition the entire team but he truly was an exemplary leader that harmonized the team and execution of this year’s event.

Impressive work DJ - you’ve set a high bar for next year!

It has been a very busy quarter… Starting with STEM education, the chapter selected the Local Teacher of the Year. Congratulations to Ms. Ellen Fiscella from Poquoson High School, our winner and honoree at the May Chapter Meeting. Her work with boat design, hardware design centered on NASA challenges and her partnership with New Horizons Regional Educational Center made for an impressive package. In addition to prizes and awards presented by the chapter, Ms. Fiscella is invited to fly with the Civil Air Patrol this summer—enjoy the flight. In addition to awarding our Teacher of the Year, the chapter continued to support two local CyberPatriot teams in their endeavor to reach the final competition, presented JROTC awards at three separate events and sponsored the State JROTC Drill Meet. The Hampton Roads Tidewater region nurtures an impressive group of young men and women. I’m proud that our chapter has a small part of these fantastic programs.

Finally, summer is here which means its PCS time for our military leaders. We’ve already said farewell to CMSgt Kennon Arnold 633 ABW/CCC and soon will bid farewell to Col Jason Brown 480 ISRW/CC, Col David Stanfield 633 MSG/CC, Col Todd Andre 1 MXG/CC and Col Greg Moseley 1 OG/CC. The AFA Langley Chapter has been very fortunate to collaborate with these stellar leaders and genuine AFA advocates during recent years. We anticipate these individuals will achieve new heights in the future and wish them much success.
