|The Langley Crier
From the Chapter President
If you haven’t been to an AFA event in the past few months, you’re missing out.
We’ve had some amazing speakers in the Langley Chapter and there are more on
the horizon. I want to say a special thank you to Colonel Caroline Miller, General
(ret) Dick Hawley and Representative Scott Taylor for spending time with us this
first quarter. We’ve also had the opportunity to host many of the annual award
winners from across Team Langley. Hearing about the accomplishments
of these amazing Airmen is inspiring. It’s a privilege
to be able to take part in these events.
The Chapter also has some big events coming up soon. There
are two in particular I hope you will attend. On April 13th will
be our annual AFA Airpower Symposium followed by the Salute
to ACC and Team Langley Dinner that evening. We’ve
got an A-list line-up including our new COMACC, General Mike ‘Mobile’ Holmes,
the ACC A-3, Major General Tom Deale and the ACC A-5/8/9, Maj Gen (s) Russ
Mack. Our dinner speaker is the former COMACC, General (ret) Ron Keys. I
hope you can come out and be a part of the event—you’re not going to find a better
professional development opportunity anywhere.
Also on our planning calendar is the 2nd Annual Wounded Airmen
5k Run. Last year at this event, led by SSgt Lloyd Swede, we
raised over $5,000 for the Wounded Airmen Program and we are expecting to
improve on that number this year. I encourage you to lace up your shoes and run
across the flight line with us. It’s a fun event for a good cause. We'll get the word out on a date as soon as we can.
Finally, I want to end this message with a word of congratulations, a welcome and
a farewell. Congratulations to Carolyn Petrina and the Providence Classical
School CyberPatriot Team for earning second place in the Virginia State Open
Competition (Gold Division). Well Done! Welcome to Bill Etchison, our new VP
for Aerospace Education and the newest member of our Chapter Committee.
Thank you for stepping up. Finally, our chapter says farewell to Brandon and
Marissa Poge. This power couple has been a huge part of our chapter leadership
for the past few years. They are PCSing to Lackland AFB down in San Antonio.
Our loss is the Alamo Chapter’s gain. Good luck to the whole family.
President, Langley AFA Chapter
